How to Clean a Vibrator

Clean toys before the first use and after every session. Match the cleaner to the material, keep water out of charging ports, and let the toy dry fully before storage.

The basic routine

• Turn the toy off and unplug it.
• Rinse body-safe silicone under warm water if the toy is waterproof, keeping the charge port away from the stream.

Silicone, ABS, and porous materials

Non-porous silicone and hard ABS plastic clean well. Porous jelly, TPE, or unexplained “cyberskin” can hold bacteria — use a condom on those materials and replace them more often. When in doubt, follow the brand card that came with the toy.

Lube and cleaners

Water-based lube such as JO H2O water-based lube or Wicked Simply Natural washes off easily and is the default with silicone toys. Oil and silicone lubes belong on glass, metal, or hybrid toys only when the manufacturer allows them. Do not use kitchen sprays, alcohol, or essential oils on silicone.

Charging ports and motors

Never soak a toy with an open magnetic or USB port. Wipe the body, then use a barely damp cloth around the port. If water gets in, leave the toy off in a dry place until it is fully dry before charging.

Share toys only with barriers

If more than one person uses a toy, clean it between users and consider a condom on insertable toys. Do not move a toy from anal play to vaginal or oral play without washing it first.
