How to Use a Vibrator

Learning how to use a vibrator is less about technique and more about going slowly. Start with a body-safe toy, water-based lube, and enough time that you are not rushing. This guide is for first-time use, including during sex. It is not medical advice.

If you have not bought one yet, read how to choose your first vibrator first, then browse in-stock vibrators with discreet Australian delivery.

Before you start

  • Wash your hands and wash the toy. See our guide on how to clean a vibrator.
  • Use JO H2O water-based lube or another water-based formula with silicone toys. Silicone lube can damage silicone.
  • Charge USB toys fully. Weak batteries feel harsh or cut out.
  • Start on the lowest setting. You can always turn it up.

How to use a vibrator on yourself

Lie down or sit so your hips can relax. Hold the toy against clothing first if that feels easier, then move to skin. External use on the clitoris, vulva, or perineum is the gentlest starting point. A compact option such as Satisfyer Ultra Power Bullet 7 or Bodywand Mini is easier to aim than a large wand.

Move in small circles or hold still and let the motor do the work. If the sensation is too sharp, add lube, lower the speed, or place a folded cloth between the toy and your body. There is no required finish. Stop whenever you want.

Internal use

Only use toys designed for internal play. Add plenty of JO H2O water-based lube. Insert slowly on a low setting, or insert with the motor off and turn it on once you are comfortable. A curved rabbit such as Fun Factory Amorino can be used internally, externally, or both — you do not have to use every part at once.

How to use a vibrator during sex

Talk first: where it will sit, who holds it, and a word to pause. During penetrative sex, a small bullet or vibrating cock rings often works better than a full-size wand because there is less to juggle. A partner can hold Satisfyer Mini Sparkling Darling against the clitoris, or you can wear a vibrating ring so both of you feel it. See using a vibrator with a partner for partner-first setups.

What to shop

In stock now: Bodywand Mini for broad, gentle vibration; Satisfyer Ultra Power Bullet 7 if you want something discreet; Fun Factory Amorino if you want a rabbit you can grow into. Pair any of them with JO H2O water-based lube. Shop the full vibrators collection or the curated Sex Toys Australia edit.

Aftercare

Turn the toy off, rinse it, then use JO Misting Toy Cleaner or mild unscented soap on non-porous silicone. Dry fully and store separately, not touching other silicone toys. See how to clean a vibrator for material-specific steps.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a first session last?

Ten to twenty minutes is plenty. Stop if anything stings, goes numb, or feels wrong.

Can vibrators be used every day?

Many people do. Keep toys clean, use lube, and take a break if you feel sore or overstimulated.

What if I do not orgasm?

That is common. The point of first use is mapping what feels good, not performing.
